The Japan’s Earthquake and Tsunami Effects
The Japan’s Earthquake and Tsunami EffectsThe massive earthquake that reached the measure of 8.9 on Richter magnitude on 11th of March, may be a new almanac we may now say when talking about earth ” before Japan’s earthquake the earth was….. or after Japan’s earthquake the earth is…….” , yes because that earthquake changed our homeland.
* According to the last research done by Dr. Richard Gross Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Japanese earthquake has shifted the Earth’s Axis by 6.5 inches (17 cm), the earthquake shifted the axis towards 133 degrees east longitude. * The earthquake affected the rotation of the earth to make it a bit faster that would lead to shortening the length of the day by about 1.8 microseconds. One Earth day is about 24 hours, or 86,400 seconds, long. Over the course of a year, its length varies by about one millisecond, or 1,000 microseconds, due to seasonal variations in the planet’s mass distribution such as the seasonal shift of the jet stream. * The earthquake has shifted the main island in Japan with about 8 feet (2.4 m) according to Kenneth Hudnut of the U.S. Geological Survey. The agency compared information from a GPS station that had moved by more than two meters with satellite images from Japan. Source: www.scienceandinventions.com |
